8th Grade Month of April

Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Finishing our Greek unit and having a Greek Fest

  • Reviewing for GMAS


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL skills.



8th Grade Month of March


Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Reading "A Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds

  • We are annotating as we read.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.

8th Grade Month of January

Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Working on a new textbook unit with Lenses on Literature from Carnegie Learning.

  • We are on Unit 2 and will be reading "Marigolds" by Eugenia W. Collier as our anchor text.

  • In addition we will be reading "The Science of Regrettable Decisions" by Robert Pearl and "The Mysterious Workings of the Adolescent Brain" by Sarah-Jayne Blakemore

  • Students will be reading texts multiple times and annotating for understanding.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.

8th Grade Month of December

Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Exploring concepts of the play, Hamlet.

  • Students will complete a historic play based on Hamlet using historic characters. Examples, lesson and rubric are on Canvas.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.

8th Grade Month of November

Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Keeping a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Exploring concepts of plays, Hamlet.

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries as we read through the play.

  • Students will craft and present their own "murder boards" as pre-reading inference activities and will write a literary analysis once we have finished reading.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.

8th Grade Month of September/ October


Hello!

This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Learning how to keep a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Exploring concepts of poetry.

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries and notes as we work through different types of poems.

  • Students will craft and present their own spoken word or slam poetry.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL skills.

8th Grade Month of August

Hello!


 This month in 8th grade we are:

  • Learning how to keep a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Using micro-mentor texts to understand author's craft.

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries and notes as we work through each excerpt.

  • Students will have assignments related to author's craft in Canvas.

  • By August 22 all parents and students will have access to Canvas.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL activities not finished in class (10 minutes or more).
