7th Grade Month of April

Term 1 standards assessed:


Hello!


This month in 7th grade we are:

  • Reviewing for GMAS

Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL skills.


7th Grade Month of March

Hello!


This month in 7th grade we are:

  • 2nd Period is reading "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park

  • 3rd Period is reading small group novels. (Fever 1793, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, The Edge of Extinction, The Westing Game, Mysteries in our National Parks, Cells at Work).

  • In addition we will be annotating as we read.

  • Students will be having Socratic Seminars about the text.


Students need to bring:

This month in 7th grade we are:

  • Working on a new textbook unit with Lenses on Literature from Carnegie Learning.

  • We are on Unit 6 and will be reading "Neurodiversity: A Concept Whose Time has Come" by Thomas Armstrong, PhD, as our anchor text.

  • In addition we will be reading "The Adolescent Brain is Literally Awesome" by Kathryn Mills and Jeya Anadakummar.

  • Students will be reading texts multiple times and annotating for understanding.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Students are highly encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep up with assignments and due dates.

 This month in 7th grade we are:

  • Learning how to keep a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Reading and annotating non-fiction and fictional texts.

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries and notes as they read through the text.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Index Cards

  • Students are HIGHLY encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep track of due dates and assignments.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL.


Special Events:

Students are participating in The Amazing Race through Literature  and will competing in pairs each month starting in September. They will have unique challenges to help support engagement and collaboration while reading and utilizing cross-curricular strategies.


Volunteer/Donation Opportunities:  ( 22 students 2nd period, 25 students 3rd period)

  • Snacks from around the world (Sierra Leone/ West Africa by November 9)

  • Total of 6 bags of play sand (by November 3)

 This month in 7th grade we are:

  • Learning how to keep a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Working on author's craft

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries and notes as they explore the author's craft with excerpts from novels, short stories and poems.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Index Cards

  • Students are HIGHLY encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep track of due dates and assignments.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL.


Special Events:

Students are participating in The Amazing Race through Literature  and will competing in pairs each month starting in September. They will have unique challenges to help support engagement and collaboration while reading and utilizing cross-curricular strategies.

7th Grade Month of August

Hello!


 This month in 7th grade we are:

  • Learning how to keep a reader response Notebook/journal.

  • Working on time management to complete assignments on time.

  • Working on argumentative writing.

  • Students will complete reader response journal entries and notes as they create an argumentative essay.

  • Students will present a debate to the class.

  • By August 22 all parents and students will have access to Canvas.


Students need to bring:

  • 3-5 different colored highlighters each day.

  • Pencils or pens each day.

  • Sticky notes (preferably clear but regular is also fine)

  • Index Cards

  • Students are HIGHLY encouraged to purchase a SAIL agenda for $5 to keep track of due dates and assignments.


Homework:

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and complete IXL activities not finished in class (10 minutes or more).


Special Events:

Students are participating in The Amazing Race through Literature and will competing in pairs each month starting in September. They will have unique challenges to help support engagement and collaboration while reading and utilizing cross-curricular strategies.


Volunteer/Donation Opportunities: ( 22 students 2nd period, 25 students 3rd period)

  • Snacks from around the world (France by September 3)

  • Tutu's (4 pack, dollar store version is fine) (by September 3)

  • Mini-marshmallows & dry spaghetti (by September 3)
